If your child is not yet in kindergarten, consider signing up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! The program is completely online.
Follow these simple steps to participate:
- Starting September 1, 2020, register online here: http://bmlny08.readsquared.com/. Registration will be ongoing and is open to any child not yet in kindergarten (newborns, infants, toddlers, and preschoolers are all welcome to join).
- Read with your child. All books count and it is okay to repeat books!
- Use your READsquared account to record the titles you read. Your account can be accessed through a browser or on the free READsquared app.
- For every 100 books recorded, your child will receive a special online badge and your child can pick out a prize from our treasure chest.
- When you finish reading 1,000 books, your child will receive a certificate of completion and a free bag.
Some additional information:
- When you create an account on READsquared, you will have access to online literacy games, recommended book lists, and a list of 100 activities to do before your child starts kindergarten.
- This program is self-paced and may take a few years to complete. 1,000 is a big number! However, if you read just one book a day with your child, you will have read over 1,000 books in 3 years!
